Release
More energy efficiency, a higher number of cycles and an award-winning design now comes in a twin pack: With generation 3.0 of its fast charging lithium-ion energy storages the award winning battery specialist AKASOL (Darmstadt) presents the energy storages of the future on the Electrical Energy Storage 2015 (EES) (Hall B1, Booth 134). AKASOL’s third generation of battery storages comes with an expansion of the number of full cycles from 5,000 to 7,000, an increase of depth of discharge of 10% to 90% DoD and a lower intrinsic energy consumption of the two battery management systems (BMS).
The maintenance-free storages are available as neeoQube, neeoRack and neeoSystem and amongst others meet the international safety standards IEC 61508 and ISO 26262. When buying an AKASOL product, home owners and business owners receive certified quality made in Germany with a 10-year warranty and a lifetime of 20 years.
The new generation 3.0 of AKASOL energy storages combines a broad range of improvements: The increase in cycle life from 5,000 to 7,000 means an increase of no less than 40 percent. “Our engineers have achieved an equally great success with the increase in depth of discharge, which we were able to raise from 80 to 90 percent,“ explains Lothar Holder, Executive Managing Director of AKASOL GmbH. But that is not all of it: Thanks to the further development of AKASOL‘s redundant, active battery management system (BMS), the battery systems work even more efficiently while significantly reducing energy requirements of the BMS.
With its neeoQube AKASOL presents in Munich not only the smartest, but also a powerful energy storage for wall mounting in homes. From now on two neeoQubes can be parallely interconnected, doubling the capacity from 5.5 kW/h to 11 kW/h. With this development we offer our customers a maximum amount of flexibility in the design of their personal energy transition. Already installed systems can be retrofitted to 11 kW/h thanks to an optimized Plug & Play-Installation. Thus, many homeowners make themselves independent of rising energy costs step by step, “ saysLothar Holder.
The fact that the installation of the wall mounted neeoQube energy storage is not only energetically worthwhile, but also a visual highlight, was recently confirmed by the jury of the prestigious Red Dot Award: „Product Design 2015“. The jury awarded the neeoQube of AKASOL for its puristic design with the Red Dot Award, the most important international product design award.
Great savings potential
With the lithium-ion energy storage system from AKASOL, households can save up to 70 % annually on their power bill. In the context of cost optimization an ever increasing number of businesses is expanding their amount of personal energy usage and the optimization of self-consumption. That is why AKASOL has also increased the storage capacities of its neeoSystems by allowing them to be connected in parallel as well. With its neeoSystem AKASOL provides a scalable system that consists of an energy management system with up to five neeoRacks. These racks have the same technical data as the neeoQube. As of now up to five neeoSystems can be combined making a nominal capacity of up to 137.5 kWh available.
“These are orders of magnitude, which certainly allow a self-sufficiency of over 80 % with commercial enterprises, assuming an appropriately sized renewable energy source. This source does not necessarily have to be only a photovoltaic system,” says René Pätzold, Head of Sales for stationary energy storages, AKASOL GmbH.
For large-scale installations with outputs in the MW-range, AKASOL is the only manufacturer that offers a liquid-cooled high-performance storage with capacities from about 100 kWh up to several MWh: the neeoMega.
All AKASOL energy storage systems are characterized by their fast-charging capability. This is made possible by a very special storage technology combined with high-end Li-ion cells that AKASOL originally developed for the automotive industry and that are used in the e-mobility sector.
AKASOL has been successful in the development of energy storage solutions for the automotive industry for more than 20 years. All stationary systems from 5.5 kWh to MWh-range are consistently developed and produced under these safety criteria. For example each battery that leaves the production undergoes a 100 % end-of-line test (EOL). “Our customers can immediately realize the full savings potential. Only certified components may be installed in the commercial vehicle and automotive industry and the guidelines are extremely strict. That clearly differenciates our components from the products of other manufacturers”, explains René Pätzold. AKASOL batteries are certified at the cellular, module and complete system level according to UN transportation regulations (UN38.3). The quality manufacturer from Germany uses only cells of well-known manufacturers which are subject to a strict quality assurance process and are constantly reviewed be special audits.
