Algeria is launching a “solar energy cluster” which will play host to small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The cluster will also play host to research institutions and local mining companies. While the initiative has officially been launched, construction has yet to begin. According to reports, the reason for the delay in construction is due to the government still having to deal with the required administrative and legal proceedings. At last count 16 SMEs made up of solar enterprises and research institutes had joined the project. The cluster is intended to help solar energy players in Algeria to share their expertise and to mutually support future projects. The initiative will require support from government and state-owned entities, as well as from the local manufacturing and mining industry.
