Algerian Military Suffers Islamist Militant Attack

Algeria’s military lost 14 soldiers after an attack by Islamist militants on April 19 after incumbent president AdelazizBouteflika was re-elected, the worst loss suffered by the military in years.

Militants hiding in the Kabylie mountains opened fire on a bus transporting soldiers, killing 11 instantly with three others dying from severe wounds. “A convoy of the People’s National Army (ANP) that was returning from an operation to secure Thursday’s presidential election was surprised by a large terrorist group that had laid an ambush for it” at the village of Iboudrarene, a source told national news agency APS.
