Algeria’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Program is gearing up to provide 22 GW of power generating capacity via renewable energy sources by 2030, and the country’s energy and mining minister Youcef Yousfi highlighted the government’s continuous efforts to help the plan meet fruition.
One of the first steps is the completion of the Rouiba solar manufacturing plant that began in 2011 which will help supply solar panels to the Algerian market. And although the plant was set to be operational in 2012, Yousfi said 6,000 transformers and the supply of an additional 2,500 MW have been added. The minister said the project is hoped to be operational before Q3 2014, but added that almost 500 MW would be added to the grid by the end of 2013.
