Atkins BWTC Projects Brings Wind Power to Bahrain

The tallest buildings in Bahrain are now the friendliest, so says contractor Atkins. The newly constructed Bahrain World Trade Center building, completed in early-April 2008, has three wind turbines, horizontally supported between each tower by three bridges weighing a whopping 65 tons each. They will provide 11-15% of the building’s electricity; clean electricity that is.

Tim Askew, Regional Managing Director for Atkins, states that the company’s goal is to raise global awareness of sustainable energy along with the psyche of the architects and engineers contracted to build energy efficient structures. “This project serves to highlight how with determination and willingness on behalf of responsive clients we can actually turn these ideas into reality,” says Askew
