Aussie Wind Generation Cheaper than Coal

US private equity fund Denham Capital Management will inject $75 million in Australia’s wind power sector which has become cheaper than coal power generation. The firm invested in 1 GW of wind projects developed by Enersis Group’s Australia unit, National Power and Kato Capital Pty Ltd.’s wind unit OneWind Australia.

Bloomberg New Energy Finance recently published a report that showed that electricity can be produced from wind in Australia at $82 per MWh compared to $145 per MWh from a new coal-fired power plant.
