Another German company has gotten involved with Desertec, but this time it isn’t a fellow solar company. German carmaker Audi has announced that it has joined the Desertec Industrial Initiative in order to increase its involvement in the renewable energy sector. The company will work as an associated partner to establish the necessary infrastructure.
“When at Audi we speak of sustainable mobility, we are looking at the entire energy balance”, said Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi. In addition to its commitment to implement more renewable energy into its business strategy, Stadler also said Audi will not only apply the principles of sustainability to the production of the cars, but will also ensure that customers can sustainably operate the cars. “Electric cars from Audi will run on sustainably produced electricity. To achieve this goal we’re supporting the development of solar- and wind-driven power plants”, Stadler said.
