British Gov and PPPs to Aid East African CDMs

The UK Climate Change Projects Office (CCPO) and the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) have announced they will change targets to push investment in carbon markets, especially for participation in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

Despite the growth in the carbon market, sub-Sahara Africa has yet to fully benefit from the CDM – a challenge that was recognized initially with the Nairobi Framework in order to help developing countries improve their CDM participation.

According to the British High Commissioner to Kenya Bob Macaire, “There are still relatively potential projects in Sub Sahara Africa, however the UK believes potential projects in areas such as waste energy efficiency and renewable energy options can increase the continent’s share of CDM success.”
