The 15 MW hybrid PV plant at the Essakane Gold mine in Burkina Faso was officially commissioned by the country’s president, Roch Marc Christian Kabore. The project, whose construction started last year, was built next to, and synchronized with, Wärtsilä´s 55 MW oil driven power plant.
Wärtsiläwas in charge of overseeing the EPC works of the solar portion of the plant, and also the control system for the hybrid plant.
The solar facility will allow for the reduction of around 18,500 tons of CO2 and the saving of around 6 million liters of fuel per year.
