Burkina Faso Launches Electrification Initiative

Roch Christian Kaboré, Burkina Faso’s president, launched the Special Rural Electrification Program (PSER). Under the initiative 22,000 households will gain access to energy. The overall objective of the PSER is to electrify, eventually, 822 localities distributed in the 13 regions of the country.

Its implementation cost has been estimated at 25 billion CFA francs, which will be financed by the World Bank and the Power Sector Support Project (PASEL).

The implementation of the program is part of the National Plan for Economic and Social Development (PNDES). Localities will be electrified by connection to the interconnected national grid, with solar and diesel hybrid systems and solar home systems.
