Burundi Hikes Power Bills by 200%

Burundi residents are about to get hit by power bill hikes so the government can partly fund additional power generation projects. Electricity bills will increase by 200% to help implement projects to combat growing demand and for the exploration of nickel.

Officials said that an additional 270 MW is needed over the next five years to meet an expected 13% growth per year. In addition, the World Bank will help fund 20 MW via a hydropower plant.
