Cairo Researchers Debut New RE Device

Researchers at the American University in Cairo (AUC) have released a new technology that could turn heat into sound and later into electricity. The thermoacoustic engine can convert heat, like that generated from solar power, into sound. Then the sound could be converted into electricity with the project costing around $3 million. The team of researchers claims that the product’s efficiency rate is around 30%, the highest possible rate for thermal engines.

Egypt is expected to have major power outages with the upcoming summer months as a result of its natural gas problem. In one area in Cairo, the power is already seeing scheduled cuts – or load shedding – each night from about 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm while other areas within the capital city are also seeing outages at various times.
