The Songloulou hydropower plant in Cameroon has hit a milestone; the plant has hit seven years of operation with no lost-time-accident (LTA). The plant is operated by AES Sonel.
The management at the plant organized a series of events to honor the milestone, including an Open Door Day. The company also honored 66 workers at the plant for their contribution in achieving the no LTA safety success.
The Songloulou Hydropower plant was constructed in two phases: 1976-81, and 1984-88. It was inaugurated by the former Cameroonian President Ahmadou Ahidjo on November 11, 1981. It provides a major source of the electricity that AES SONEL distributes in its southern grid. The plant provides about 40 % of the total production capacity of AES SONEL.
