The Central African Republic (CAR) president Francois Bozize has lost a key city to rebels. Bambari, the third largest city in the country, is the nearest city to the capital Bangui. Over the past month, the group also took the mining town of Bria.
The Seleka rebels, composed of various factions from three of the former armed groups, claim that the leader has refused to honor a peace deal struck in 2007. The agreement was supposed to see the rebels included in the army, release political prisoners, and pay amnesty dues for rebels that laid down arms.
