Wind Farm project.
The wind farm, being developed in partnership with Watt Energy and The Tsitsikamma Development Trust, underwent a series of site noise simulation tests to determine the noise impact of its 31 wind turbines that will be installed in Q3 2013.
The noise simulation tests, which took place over four nights during December, simulated the sound of a wind energy facility using speakers and a wind turbine sound clip. The speakers were all calibrated to provide a noise level at the first row of community houses slightly in excess of that predicted by computer models.
The Tsitsikamma Wind Farm project has been structured to include 9% community ownership. In addition, the project has a strong localization focus, meaning that many of the contractors working on the project will be sourced from Wittekleibosch and surrounding communities.
