Chevron Energy Solutions Grabs Green Business Award

Chevron Corp.’s Chevron Energy Solutions has received the San Francisco Business Times’ 2009 Green Business Award for the “Best Green Service” category for its innovative and sustainable projects that provide energy and are economically viable.

Earlier in the month (Chevron CEO Doubts US Efforts to Cut CO2), Chevron CEO David O’Reilly was quoted as saying that he believed the US has set its energy targets too high, and said without a significant change in energy infrastructure, the goals to cut carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 were unrealistic. "We’ll be lucky if we can get 20% or 25% by 2050," O’Reilly said in a debate with Carl Pope, executive director of environmental group Sierra Club. "I hope I’m wrong about it, but I’m just looking at capital stock turnover."

Despite this rhetoric, it appears as though Chevron is committed to striving to make those US benchmarks a reality.

"It’s clear that Chevron Energy Solutions deserves this award," said Mary Huss, publisher of the San Francisco Business Times. "We applaud the company’s work to deliver services that provide an exceptional level of sustainability."

The San Francisco Business Times received nearly 200 nominations for this year’s Green Business Awards. A panel of San Francisco Bay Area experts in clean technology and sustainable business practices reviewed the nominations and selected a winner for each of 14 categories based on their demonstrated commitment to clean technologies and sustainable business practices.

"We appreciate the recognition and it validates everything we’re trying to achieve for our customers," said Jim Davis, president of Chevron Energy Solutions. "Here in our hometown and across the country, our team is working hard to bring energy efficiency and renewable power projects to education and government customers, so that they can benefit from the cost savings and facility improvements while reducing their carbon footprint."
