China Asks SA to Jointly Develop RE

China is urging South Africa to jointly develop clean energy and renewable energy. The Asian country said that its national development campaign could correlate to South Africa’s newly launched New Economic Growth Plan.

 

China wants to get more entrenched in South Africa’s energy sectors including nuclear, solar, and wind. The South African National Council of Provinces is looking to also promote bilateral trade cooperation with China.

 

With its recent membership into the BRICS bloc of emerging countries, South Africa stands to gain access to much needed capital to expand its economy, particularly its energy sector. At the end of April, the China Development Bank announced that it would grant $1.5 billion to BRICS member countries to fund infrastructure projects.
