China Longyuan Power Group, the Chinese power producer, secured financing for the 244-MW project of wind parks in South Africa. Funding is coming from Nedbank Group and South Africa-based Industrial Development Corp (IDC), as well as China Longyuan’s parent China Guodian (CGC).
The location of the wind parks are in Northern Cape province and include the 100-MW De Aar Phase I wind system and the 144-MW De Aar Phase II North District facility. The facilities will use 1.5-MW turbines made by Guodian United Power Technology.
China Longyuan as a controlling shareholder, is working in collaboration with local firms Mulilo Renewable Energy and the Black Community Co. The two projects were selected by the South African Department of Energy (DOE) under the third round of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Procurement Program (REIPP).
