Chinese Company Looking to Africa to Increase its RE Portfolio

China Guodian Corp. is looking to venture into South Africa in addition to Kyrgystan, Indonesia, and Australia. One of China’s top five power generation groups is aiming to have renewable energy sources constitute up to 40% of its installed capacity by 2020.

Guodian’s Executive Vice President Mi Shuhua said that the company is currently incorporating about 10% of renewable energy, but plans to add 3.5 GW of wind power capacity annually over the next three years. "We are also pushing for development of solar power and clean hydropower. We are also participating in nuclear energy development," said Shuhua.
