A public-private partnership (PPP) has been launched to promote the production of ethanol from cassava and sugarcane in Cote d’Ivoire which would be used for clean cook stoves.
The Partners for Euro-African Green Energy (Pangea), two local companies Cotrame and Saphir HM, and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of Cote d’Ivoire signed a MoU on November 23. The partnership aims to conduct a feasibility study on ethanol production in the country, educating farmers on the best practices for optimal production of sugarcane and cassava. The group also hopes to help the government implement a comprehensive bioenergy policy aimed at the distribution of clean cook stoves. A pilot project including mini-ethanol distillery that uses cassava and sugarcane as feedstock will be planned. And ultimately, the PPP will help create jobs and provide a greater distribution network for clean cook stoves.
