Denham Capital Invests $150M in SA’s Bio Therm Energy

Private equity firm Denham Capital has announced it will invest equity of up to $150 million in Bio Therm Energy. Bio Therm Energy is a South African developer, owner, and operator of renewable and clean energy generation projects.

Bio Therm Energy is targeting energy industries where the industrial processes release high volumes of waste energy both as heat and gas. The company harnesses this energy that would have been wasted, producing electricity and/or steam. Then, the product is sold to the host site or third party entities like South African power utility Eskom. The company is also implementing a multi-level sustainability in all of its projects through the participation of Black Economic Empowerment and community-based development programs.

"Our investment in BioTherm reflects our strong belief in the potential for innovative solutions to the South African power crisis," said Scott Mackin, a Partner at Denham Capital. "We are delighted to be working to develop this exciting and valuable business, with a highly skilled and committed management team with a proven track record. We believe BioTherm Energy is well positioned to deliver much needed additional clean and reliable power to the Southern African economy."
