The East African Community secretary general ambassador Juma Mwapachu said that the pace is sluggish at which the Zambia-Tanzania-Kenya electricity interconnector is being implemented. "The system of interconnector is very slow, regrettably. But as I said, the North South Corridor is a robust infrastructure project, so we are not just going to end with the One Stop Border Post, the roads and railways; the energy aspect is going to be very critical," Mwapachu said.
He said the main issue was that the region was still in an energy deficit. "So it’s not just a question of interconnectors, it’s a question of how we are going to develop further our hydro power and other renewable sources of energy” he added.
