Editor’s Choice: Solar-Powered Electrical Socket

As I was flipping through Facebook, I noticed a friend’s post that showcased the Window Socket, a portable solar-powered outlet that attaches to windows. You can plug in small devices to the outlet or save the stored power for use during non-sunlight hours.

Kyuho Song and Boa Oh have designed the charger to stick to a window drawing solar energy to an internal battery, which is, well – genius! The creators tried to design a portable socket so that users could use it without special training, according to Yanko Design.

It sticks to a window via a suction plate that encircles the solar panel with the outlet being the transmitter to power a plugged device. Right now, the design is only in a concept phase although the creators hope to increase its efficiency, energy storage, and charge time. It currently takes five to eight hours to charge, but can offer 10 continuous hours of power on a full charge (only on small energy products like mobile phones).

I’m personally excited about this, what about you?
