Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly recently met with the North African country’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El Molla and its Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker to review the progress in their respective sectors.
One topic of focus was determining the volume of natural gas that would be needed for operating power stations and the latest efforts to rationalize electricity consumption so that more natural gas would be available for export.
Significant emphasis was placed on the renewable energy sector as a means to conserve natural gas for export and wind and solar energy projects being undertaken in partnership with international investors were reviewed. Egypt has a renewable energy goal that calls for 42% of the country’s energy mix to include renewables by 2035.
Green hydrogen is becoming increasingly attractive to Egypt so the participants reviewed the recent agreements and MoUs signed over the past year to implement green hydrogen projects in the country. Some of these agreements include the DNV-Petrojet MoU, the Globeleq deal, and the AMEA Power 1,000 MW green hydrogen project.
