A joint development agreement for a new green methanol production project, the first of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East, has been signed by the Alexandria National Refining and Petrochemicals Company (ANPRC) and Scatec Solar, a leading Norwegian company in the field of green energy solutions.
The agreement was signed by Salah Jaber, the head of ANPRC, and Terje Pilskog, the CEO of Scatec Solar.
Tarek El Molla, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Minerals, on hand for the signing, states the agreement is a new step that reflects the oil sector’s progress on the path to implementing green energy and low-emission projects in collaboration with leading global companies.
The new project aims to produce 40,000 tons per year (tpy) of green methanol, with the potential to increase production up to 200,000 tpy.
