Egypt and Saudi Arabia have long discussed the idea of partnering for power to help combat shortages, particularly during the summer. The countries are reportedly in discusses again to revitalize the plan that would have the GCC-connected Saudi Arabia and the North Africa-connected Egypt helping to create a line that would ultimately connect all of the GCC member countries to those in North Africa.
Earlier plans include an electricity swap that has Saudi Arabia sending power to Egypt in the mornings and Egypt reciprocating in the evenings. Power cuts continue to hamper Egypt’s residents during the Muslim holy month, Ramadan. No further details have been provided by either government and the infrastructure necessary to establish such a partnership will take awhile.
