Eskom suspended work at its construction sites after six construction workers died at the Ingula pumped storage project in KwaZulu-Natal. Eskom’s CEO Brian Dames that the utility has cancelled contracts and suspended contractors in the past who failed to meet safety regulations.
Operations will resume after Eskom has carried out safety investigations, performed by law firm Webber Wentzel. “One life lost is one too many, whether it is one of our employees or one of our contractors. The project timelines are the least of our concerns now. What is a priority is to focus on the families of those who passed away,” Dames said.
