Ethiopia Bumps Egypt for the Continent’s Largest Wind Farm

Ethiopia ushered in its Ashegoda wind farm after several delays hampered its original 2011 start-up date. The farm has an installed capacity of 120 MW with an annual production of 400-450 GWh, bumping Egypt’s Zafarana wind farm as the continent’s second largest wind scheme.

The €210 million wind farm in Tigray state, built by French company Vergnet, was announced in 2008 with a three-year expected completion date; however, logistics caused delays.
