Ethiopia Set to Commission a New Wind Project

Ethiopia continues to increase its renewable energy efforts with the announcement of a wind park project to be located in Debre Berhan with an estimated capacity of 400 MW. US company Terra Energy signed a MoU with Ethiopian Electric Power Corp. (EEPCo) for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of a wind turbine assembly plant on November 12. The group will also handle the required financing, while also establishing a JV with Princeton Energy Group, Global Enterprise Engineering (GE2) Solutions, and Pacific Renewable Energy Consulting for the technology transfer of the plant.

Debre Berhan wind park is one of seven wind projects that the EEPCo wanted to get onstream in the next five years. EEPCo plans to increase the East African country’s power generating capacity to 1,000 MW with 8,000 0MW  planned to come from wind energy.
