Former Eskom CEO to Chair BioTherm Energy

Allen Morgan, former Eskom CEO, has been appointed chairman of renewable and clean energy generation project developer BioTherm Energy.

Morgan was with Eskom as CEO for six years, from 1994 to 2000, and is currently serving as a non-executive director of the power utility and JSE-listed Kumbo Iron Ore.

BioTherm was founded in 2003 and has an important project pipeline in the energy recovery, clean, and renewable energy fields in South Africa. The company uses carbon finance listed in the Kyoto Protocol to shore up capital for projects in addition to developing, owning, and operating turnkey energy waste-to-energy, renewable energy, and energy efficiency projects in the sub-utility range of 5 MW to 100 MW.

“Allen is highly respected for his contributions to both Eskom and the electricity sector in South Africa. We are fortunate to have someone of his stature joining our team at this critical juncture in the global and domestic economy,” said BioTherm Energy founder and CEO Charles Liebenberg.

“Through BioTherm, I am looking forward to helping develop clean and renewable energy solutions for South Africa, where the needs and opportunities are great. It’s going to be exciting to be part of a young and growing company at this stage of its development,” stated Morgan.
