France to be Germany’s Net Exporter of Electricity

After Japan’s Fukushima crisis, France has turned into a net exporter of electricity to Germany. Germany has decided to downscale its nuclear energy plants giving France the chance to increase its already significant amounts of power to its European neighbor.

French electricity exports to Germany have increased by 43% in April and became a net exporter of electricity although it was an importer of electricity in 2010.

France, which relies on nuclear power for about three quarters of its power needs, exported a net capacity of 509 GWh to Germany in April as compared to net imports of 618 GWh in April 2010, according to news source RTE. As a result, Germany has recently joined Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK in relying on France for more electricity imports than exports.
