Insufficient funding is leading to delays in renewable energy projects in Zimbabwe, according to reports. The country’s energy minister, Samuel Undenge, has stated that the country has the capacity to produce 1,600 MW of electricity from renewable energy resources.
While the minister may have high ambitions for the country’s renewable energy sector, the funds to advance these plans are not for thcoming. For example, ESI Africa reported that according to the energy deputy minister, TsitsiMuzenda, three of the planned solar energy projects still require $202 million in order to be executed. Zimbabwe’s Marondera solar project is also seeing roadblocks in its funding.
