Kenya’s geothermal energy now accounts for 50% of the energy currently consumed in the country. According to the Kenya
National Bureau of Statistics, geothermal energy also set a new record with a production of 415 million kilowatts per hour in August 2017,
the largest ever recorded in the country.
Geothermal tops other renewable sources with hydroelectricity coming in the closest at 39%, while thermal energy is at 15% currently.
Kenya’s goal is to produce 2,000 MW of energy through geothermal energy by 2022.
