The Karpowership Osman Khan based off Tema, Ghana is being relocated. The floating power plant will be moved to Ghana’s naval base at Sekondi.
The Karpowership Osman Khan supplies the country with 470 MW of power generation. This power will be taken offline during the 17 days it takes to move the plant and connect to the 330 kV transmission line connecting Sekondi to the power grid.
Officials of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCO), the national electricity distribution company, have assured that the move will not have an adverse impact.
In 2015, Karpowership Ghana Company signed a power purchase agreement with the West African country for the supply of 450 MW over a period of 20 years. The mobile power station, which has been running on liquid fuel during its first years, is gradually switching to the country’s gas industry, in order to lower the cost of producing electricity.
