Ghana’s Jatropha Example Carried to Israel

Ghana is making waves with its implementation of the jatropha plant as a feedstock for biofuels and Galten Global Alternative Energy is taking notice. COO Doron Levi said his company is currently working in Ghana to cultivate a 250-acre site that could provide the world’s most important biofuel feedstock reserves.

The Israeli company is looking into bringing the plant into cultivation in Israel, which could substantially decrease dependence on the MidEast oil sector.

At the International Renewable Energy Conference held in Abuja, Nigeria October 7-9, Jatropha Africa Director of Operations Ohene Akoto noted the significance of the plant’s versatility of even being able to grow in arid regions, such as Egypt. The price of jatropha is competitive and Ohene said, “Jatropha is a catalyst," referring to its potential as a major biofuel feedstock source.
