Ghana’s President John Atta Mills Dies

John Atta Mills, Ghana’s president, has died unexpectedly according to a presidential office statement after becoming suddenly ill on July 23. 

"It is with a heavy heart…that we announce the sudden and untimely death of the president of the Republic of Ghana," a statement from the president’s office said. The statement went on to say that Mills, 68, died a few hours after becoming ill but no further details were given. Mill’s was said to be complaining about pains the night before and his condition worsened the next day, eventually leading to his death.

Ghana’s vice president, John Bramani Mahama, will be sworn in as the new president and under the country’s constitution, will complete Mills’s term that was due to end with elections in December. Alternative Energy Africa’s thoughts are with all Ghanaians at this time.
