South Africa saw the start of commercial operations at its 111-MW Gibson Bay wind farm. The wind farm, located in the Eastern Cape province in the Kouga Municipality, was developed by Enel Green Power RSA.
Power produced from the wind farm will be supplied to the South African utility Eskom under a 20-year power PPA and was part of South Africa’s REIPPPP.
The Gibson Bay wind farm consists of 37 of Nordex’s N117/3000 turbines. Each of the turbines produces about 3 MW of electricity.
Enel invested an estimated $206 million in the Gibson Bay wind farm.
