Google, GE Join for Clean Energy Technology

After last month’s announcement of a $10-million investment in enhanced geothermal technology, Google Inc. along with General Electric (GE) announced a joint effort to lobby in Washington D.C. to expand the renewable energy sector.

One of the main platforms these conglomerates are taking: the creation of smart electric grids and electric vehicles. Smart grids provide utilities and customers methods to closely monitor and control energy usage.

"Both companies believe that our economic, environmental and security challenges require that we use electricity more efficiently, generate it from cleaner sources, and electrify our transportation fleet," the firms said in a joint release.
