HERi Madagascar is bringing solar to rural parts of Madagascar. HERi developed a locally-run and potentially scalable model for providing renewable power to off-grid locations, through kiosks.
Rural communities provide a small amount of investment for the construction of the energy kiosk. The electrical solar system, including solar panels, batteries and an inverter, is then installed by HERi’s technicians with a DV (12v) and an AC (220v) output.
The facility acts as a standalone energy point where lamps can be recharged, as well as other electrical devices such as mobile phones, and even refrigerators.
The kiosk network is run as a franchise model aimed at female entrepreneurs.
