Release–IHS Earns Carbon Disclosure Project Accreditation for Carbon Reporting Software
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.-IHS Inc., a leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced that it has earned accreditation by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) as a provider of software products that meet CDP’s standards for collecting, calculating and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) information.
CDP, widely regarded as the gold standard for carbon disclosure methodology and processes, identifies best-in-class software providers that enable thousands of industry-leading organizations worldwide to disclose their GHG emissions as well as risks and opportunities posed by climate change. A global operation, headquartered in the United Kingdom, CDP represents 475 institutional investors with a combined $55 trillion under management.
IHS readily met stringent CDP criteria for established providers of technology solutions that are more than three years old, a client base that includes 10 or more publicly quoted companies and recommendations from five clients that submit CDP reports. IHS environmental professionals have been leaders in managing air emissions for decades and the company’s air, refrigerant and GHG emissions client base is the industry’s largest by far – representing hundreds of organizations worldwide.
In addition, IHS passed an independent third-party evaluation based on standard carbon emissions measurement and reporting criteria. Testing took place over the course of several weeks, and data was collected based on World Resource Institute/World Business Council for Sustainable Development guidelines.
By meeting the CDP accreditation requirements, IHS is designated as a CDP Carbon Calculation Partner.
2,500 organizations in some 60 countries worldwide disclose their greenhouse gas emissions and an assessment of risks and opportunities associated with climate change through CDP. Those reports are used by institutional investors, government officials and stakeholder organizations.
“We are proud to be recognized by CDP as a leading provider of GHG reporting solutions,” said Scott Lockhart, IHS vice president, environment. “This confirms once again that IHS software meets the industry’s highest independent standards for supporting companies to measure and manage greenhouse gas emissions.”
Paul Dickinson, chief executive officer at CDP, said “Following successful completion of a third-party testing process to ensure it met our performance criteria, CDP is delighted to recommend IHS to organizations to support the process of calculating carbon emissions.”
IHS helps clients make climate-change business decisions more easily and efficiently by serving as their single source of information content, technology and expertise. IHS addresses two of the most critical, foundational aspects of any company’s direction regarding climate change: greenhouse gas emissions management from operations to trading and strategic industry context and investment decision support.

Among those participants will be experts from the IHS CERA Climate Change and Clean Energy Forum – which provides original research and insight on the key issues pertaining to climate change and clean energy policy, strategy, markets and technology, and facilitates discussion among industry leaders and key stakeholders to help understand, integrate and address the strategic climate change and clean energy questions facing the global energy industry.
