India to Fund Hybrid Solar Plant in Mauritania

India has issued a line of credit to Mauritania that will help the African nation to develop a hybrid power plant. The line of credit is worth $65.68 million and will be used on a plant that runs on both diesel and solar.

The facility is designed to improve rural electrification in the country.

The rural electrification rate in Mauritania was 5% in 2015. The country currently has an energy demand slightly higher than 100 MW for an available thermal capacity of 240 MW.
