IRENA Forges Ahead, Despite Recent Management Changes

After news of interim director general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Helene Pelosse handing in her resignation, business as usual has continued within the organization.

IRENA has proposed a new initiative that will have citizens promoting renewable energy by urging their governments to adopt tactics to increase the industry.

The organization will prepare a “Renewable Readiness Report” on all world nations, which will give a clear picture of their legislative framework, incentives, targets and provisions in national development plan for adopting renewable energy, a top official told Gulf News. And two of the top regions IRENA is looking into implementing this project first: Africa and the South Pacific Islands, according to newly appointed interim director Adnan Z. Amin.

The interim director noted that many countries have an element of policy for RE, but it remains ambiguous. IRENA hopes that the report will spotlight the inconsistencies in policy framework and capacity to help the countries better address these issues.
