Researchers at Israel’s Ben Gurion University have developed a process to make a green alternative for crude oil out of water and CO2.
The new alternative could replace oil as the input for refineries, differing greatly from other alternatives like electric batteries that require additional infrastructure. Prof. Moti Herskowitz said that the process was patent pending, but once complete, the researchers are ready to begin piloting the source. He added: “It is envisaged that the short-term implementation of the process will combine synthetic gas produced from various renewable and alternative sources with carbon dioxide and hydrogen. Since there are no foreseen technological barriers, the new process should become a reality within five to 10 years.”
