Japan Plans to Give China a Run for RE

Despite the Fukushima nuclear crisis which had Alternative Energy Africa wondering about its continuation of renewable energy investments in Africa, Japanese firms are ready to inch out competitors, particularly China. The Nikkei said that about 20 Japanese firms plan to form JVs to win orders for solar power generators and plants.

The Japanese government plans to help these consortiums of three to nine companies each by providing financial assistance. The firms will bid for projects in five areas including the MENA region.

Panasonic Corp, JGC Corp, Mitsui & Co., and three other firms will tie up on a bid for solar power project in Indonesia. Yokogawa Electric Corp. plans to build a power plant in the MENA region using solar cells made by Sharp Corp, Kaneka Corp., and JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp. The report said the five teams will begin operating this year hoping to win at least one order each by Q3 2013.
