Japan Throws More $$$ to Africa

As Alternative Energy Africa reported last week (China Move Over, Japan is Coming), Japan is hopping on the African RE scene even more this time by financing Malawian projects. The Asian country has given a grant worth K2.6 billion to Malawi in order to reconstruct the South Rukuru Bridge and to install a solar electricity generation system at the Kamuzu International Airport.

Motoyoshi Noro, Japanese Ambassador to Malawi said that the grant aid is a part of Japan’s commitment to Africa announced at the Fourth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IV), held in May 2008 to strengthen cooperation towards efforts in the field of climate change countermeasures within African countries.
