German company juwi released its final press release for 2013 detailing how it plans to help see a shift in power generation. CEO Matthias Willenbacher said juwi’s success was because of the company’s internationalization strategy. He said, “We are able to realize projects all around the world within a remarkably short time.”
The firm said that an impressive amount of globally-realized projects were brought online in 2013, many being lighthouse projects. In Kenya’s Mfangano island, juwi’s off-grid division installed the Solar Fuel Saver, a self-developed, intelligent controller that is directly coupled to the existing diesel generator mini-grid. The company release said that what made this concept unique was that it was the first hybrid system that didn’t need batteries – making it up to 60% cheaper than battery-operated off-grid systems. “Together with local partners the general concept was elaborated and then implemented on the island.”
