KenGen Taking Bids for Wind Farm

The Kenya Electricity Generating Co. (KenGen) has announced it is looking for offers for the construction of a 10-MW wind farm after receiving a €20 million concessional loan from Spain to help finance the project. The Ngong II project is the second phase of the Belgian-financed project that is already producing 5.1 MW.

KenGen placed an ad in local newspaper Daily Nation that indicated Spanish suppliers were being sought, although there is no guarantee that a Spanish contractor will be chosen for the Ngong II wind power project. The Spanish wind energy industry contains over 500 companies and about 150 of those are wind turbine producers. And while Spain was third in the world for top wind energy producers, the country has recently been surpassed by China.
