Kenya Sees SEFA Grant for Biomass Project

The Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA) awarded a $995,000 grant to Asticom Kenya Ltd. The funds will go to the project to build a 10-MW mini biomass plant in Kariba near Nairobi.

The grant will be used to carry out an environmental feasibility study and to evaluate the social impacts of the project. These funds will also enable the completion of detailed engineering designs as well as obtaining financial and legal advice.

The 10-MW plant will produce energy from the municipality’s solid waste. It will also manufacture biogas and ethanol. The infrastructure will transform about 1,000 tons of waste per day.
