Kenya’s hopes for housing the largest wind farm in Africa have once again been delayed. The East African country tried to curb its public debt by no longer granting guarantees on funding, forcing investors to mitigate risk via underwriters. However, it was predicted that projects in the pipeline like Lake Turkana could be affected.
The wind farm was scheduled to come online in H1 2013, but that has now been pushed back to mid-2014. Chairman of the Lake Turkana Wind Power project Carlo van Wageningen said that investors were struggling to gain support guarantees from the government.
