Kenya Electric Transmission Company (Ketraco) plans to begin construction of an auxiliary high-voltage power transmission line for the coal-fired power plant to be located north of Lamu City in July. The 520-km long, the 400-kV transmission line will cross, among others, the counties of Lamu, Garissa, Kitui, Machakos and Nairobi.
The $220-million project is expected to be completed in around 36 months.
The coal plant project includes three coal boilers with a combined production capacity of 1050 MW. It has an overall cost of $2 billion.
